Creativity in the Classroom Teacher Training on Drama in Education and Interactive Theatre

Drosos Description

The National Center for Culture and Arts, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and with funding from the Drosos Foundation, implemented the "Classroom Creativity" project. This project aims to provide teachers from grades 1 to 12 with theater-based techniques, drama in education, facilitation methods, and interactive theater over a period of three years. The goal is to empower public school teachers in targeted areas to conduct creative activities to enhance their personal skills and provide them with rich educational experiences beyond the curriculum, ensuring comprehensive development for students.

The project's activities varied as follows:

  • Training 300 teachers from the Ministry of Education in grades 1-12 from the capital Amman and the governorates of Irbid, Karak, and Zarqa, on the use of drama in education and theater arts techniques. The training comprised 64 accredited training hours from the International Theater Institute and the Ministry of Education.
  • Production of a training guide for teachers in grades 1-12, authored by experts from the National Center for Culture and Arts and the Ministry of Education, containing educational drama strategies and exercises.
  • Production of a visual guide for the training material.
  • Distribution of 3000 copies of the training material guide.
  • Conducting 480 field visits for monitoring and evaluation by a specialized team from the National Center for Culture and Arts.

More than 300,000 students benefit annually from the implementation of these activities by teachers in the classroom across the four governorates.
The "Classroom Creativity" project had a tangible impact, bringing about profound changes in various aspects of education and community development in targeted areas. By equipping 300 teachers with advanced techniques rooted in theater and drama, the project brought about a fundamental shift in learning methodologies within classrooms. It enabled students to explore their potential, express themselves confidently, and actively participate in the learning process. As a result, the project not only improved the quality of education but also fostered a culture of collaboration, critical thinking, and personal development among students. The project's effects continue to extend to the broader community, laying the foundation for a more vibrant and empowered society.
