Established in 1996 under the artistic direction of Ms. Rania Kamhawi, MISK comprises of 12 members who are professionally trained in classical ballet and contemporary dance techniques in addition to traditional Jordanian folk dance. The company performs extensively locally and internationally combining the traditional Jordanian culture and heritage within a modern and professional context that embodies the spirit of history & modernity.
MISK repertoire includes ballet performances; Cinderella in 2023, A Night in Vienna in 2019, The Snow Queen premiered in 2017, The Nutcracker, Scheherazade and Coppélia which were premiered at the Jerash International Festival in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Scheherazade was also performed at the Bahrain Summer Festival in 2013.
MISK has participated in various folklore dance performances including “A Night of Jordanian Treasure” at UNESCO headquarters in Paris attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the International Arab Youth Congress under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Noor Al Hussein in Jordan, the Okinawa Theatre Festival in Japan, the World Theatre Festival in San Diego and the Biennale des Jeunes Créateurs de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée in Napoli.
MISK has also participated with five original works, 91°, WORDS, Selective Amnesia, Seasons & Untethered and Unexpected at the annual Amman Contemporary Dance Festival since 2016, in addition to performing at the official draw and opening ceremony of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup which were held in Jordan in 2016 and the official draw and opening ceremony of Asia Football Cup in 2018. In March 2020, MISK performed at the Gala dinner of their Majesties King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway and recently in various performances held on the occasion of the wedding celebrations of HRH Crown Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah.
