The training courses focus on how to use drama in education and prepare teachers to implement drama activities with students as part of the Ministry of Education's policy to allocate two periods for extracurricular activities weekly for grades 1-12.
The courses are based on the "Drama in Education and Theatre Arts Techniques Manual”, which was produced by specialists from the National Center for Culture and Arts (NCCA) and the Ministry of Education.
The training relies on practical implementation in the classroom led by the teacher and comprises of two sections:
Section 1: Drama in Education strategies, including creative drama games, the five senses, role-playing and improvisation, voice and speech, mime, story creation, creative writing and creative movement.
Section 2: Includes, interactive theater, facilitator techniques, and methodology to create short theatre scenes on social issues constructed by the teacher and students.
This extensive training program enables students to achieve the 4 Cs of the 21st Century Skills: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Communication, Collaboration, Creativity and Innovation.
Impact assessments conducted from 2018 to 2024 have demonstrated a myriad of benefits, including a reduction in bullying, enhanced academic performance, improved communication, and a positive school environment.
The training manual is available in Arabic, along with a video guide that includes practical implementation of the activities.
