Empowering Youth Towards a Prosperous Future

The National Center for Culture and Arts (NCCA) implemented the "Empowering Youth Towards a Prosperous Future" project with support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project aims to raise awareness on issues related to preventing violent extremism and access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services for Syrian and Palestinian refugees in host communities, as well as local Jordanian communities.

The "Empowering Youth for a Prosperous Future" project comprises two key components:

Promoting Peace through Media: The project produced six short videos aimed at promoting peace, stability, and resilience against violent extremism. These videos were broadcasted on local television stations and shared across various social media platforms. The content was developed in collaboration with the Community Peace Center of the Public Security Directorate, with the goal of countering extremist narratives and instilling values of tolerance and coexistence within the community.

Interactive Theatre for SRHR Awareness: The project seeks to increase awareness of the unique challenges faced by women and youth in Jordan regarding access to and exercise of their sexual and reproductive health rights. Through the reproduction of the interactive play "Mish Aib" (Not Shameful), originally produced by the NCCA in partnership with the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Information and Research Center of the King Hussein Foundation (IRCKHF), under the new title "Imaginary Barriers" the project aims to address social barriers to accessing sexual and reproductive health services in a patriarchal society. It also seeks to correct misconceptions related to sexual and reproductive health targeted at both women and men aged 18-30 years.

Project Activities:

  • Promoting Peace through Media: Production of TV Episodes: The project team produced a series of six short videos addressing topics of peace, stability, and resilience against violent extremism. These videos aim to engage viewers and inspire them to reflect on the importance of peace and tolerance in society.
  • Broadcasting and Distribution: The videos were broadcasted on local television channels and distributed across various social media platforms to ensure wide reach and accessibility to all groups. The content was designed to resonate with a diverse audience, including youth, educators, and community leaders.
  • Partnership with the Community Peace Center: In collaboration with the Community Peace Center of the Public Security Directorate, expert insights were included in these videos to promote counter-narratives to extremism and foster a spirit of tolerance and coexistence within the community.
  • Interactive Theatre for SRHR Awareness: Presentation of the Interactive Play "Imaginary Barriers": This play explores the challenges of accessing sexual and reproductive health services in our society.
