The National Center for Culture and Arts (NCCA) implemented the 'Mobilizing Creative Arts for Prevention of GBV' project, aimed at building societal resilience against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and Child Marriage, and promoting tolerance and human values through the arts in Jordan, Palestine, and Egypt. By empowering family units and society at large, especially women, with information about the negative impacts of these issues, participants are better positioned to advocate against harmful practices affecting women and girls.
The project focused on promoting societal change in perceptions, attitudes, behaviors, and political engagement toward violence against women and girls in the target countries. It aimed to raise awareness about GBV, FGM, and Child Marriage while enhancing the capacities of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to advocate for legislative changes.
This project supported the development of a more inclusive and safer society for women in Jordan, Palestine, and Egypt, emphasizing the importance of uniting different societal sectors to counter GBV, FGM, and Child Marriage.
Throughout the project, a total of 53 youths from the YPEER network, including artists and community members from the three target countries, participated in a comprehensive 40-hour training program. This program, which focused on Theatre Based Techniques, was designed to elevate awareness about the profound impacts of FGM, GBV, and child marriage on families and communities. The participants, including 15 youths from Jordan, 22 from Palestine, and 16 from Egypt, brought unique perspectives and experiences that enriched the training sessions.
These workshops not only highlighted the negative consequences of such societal issues but also equipped participants with the tools to advocate for change. By transforming the narratives and stories of affected individuals into compelling theater scripts, the project facilitated performances in each target area, creating platforms for dialogue and reflection within the community.
Additionally, the project enhanced the capacities of community organizations and stimulated dialogue around policies and legislation that promote women's rights and gender equality. By encouraging changes in traditional behaviors and beliefs, and raising awareness about the importance of combating violence and discrimination, the project built more tolerant and inclusive communities, creating a safer and more inclusive environment for women and girls in the targeted countries.
