Untold Stories – Building the capacity of youth and cultural actors through the performing arts

2021-2023

The National Centre for Culture and Arts (NCCA) has implemented Untold Stories project in East Amman, Ajloun, and Karak, the project aimed at building the capacity of vulnerable youth through comprehensive arts programs. The initiative sought to increase their participation in public life and raise awareness of the value of arts in promoting democratic behavior and active citizenship, as well as in cultural management to Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to provide sustainable quality arts programs to local communities.

Utilizing decades of expertise in programming actions for youth and extensive networks with local communities, the NCCA and its partners delivered quality art programs to vulnerable youth. These programs included workshops in creative writing, music, vocals, and theatre arts, as well as training in cultural management for potential future arts leaders at the grassroots level. Additionally, the project engaged local communities and stakeholders through musical theatre performances, publications of original short stories and monologues, the production of a documentary showcasing project activities and processes, and the awarding of three sub-grants to CBOs to develop quality arts programs in local communities.

The outcome contributed to enhancing knowledge, skills, attitudes, motivation, and awareness of the value of culture and arts in the community, ultimately fostering a shift in behaviors and practices towards establishing inclusive and enabling youth-friendly environments, increasing access to quality cultural and arts activities, and promoting greater participation in public life.
