“Out of the Box” is an interactive theatrical performance that opens new horizons for vocational careers in Jordan.
The national Interactive Theater team presents the play “Out of the Box” as part of the “Skills for Success—Youth Embrace Vocational Education and Training in Jordan” project. This project is implemented by the National Center for Culture and Arts in partnership with the Vocational Training Corporation, the Advanced Vocational Training College, and the Ministry of Education, with support from the Drosos Foundation in Switzerland.
“Out of the Box” is more than just a play; it's an interactive experience that mirrors Jordanian reality. It engages students, parents, and the general public in a lively community discussion about the importance of vocational education and training. It also highlights the social and economic value of vocational work.
The play is set in the town of “Yanbou,” where a mysterious box appears and changes the course of events. The story features young characters like Adeeb, who loves electronics but faces family pressure, and Sana, who dreams of tailoring and fashion design but is forced onto a different academic path. The cast also includes Abu Emad, a 60-year-old carpenter who achieved success through his talent and passion despite his limited formal education.
Through an engaging interactive style, the play opens up a real dialogue about supporting young people to freely choose their career paths. This is especially relevant given that studies confirm more than 60% of future jobs required in Jordan fall within the technical and vocational sectors.
Ninety-six theatrical performances will be presented over three years in Ministry of Education schools, targeting eighth and ninth-grade students and their parents in all governorates of the kingdom. There will also be special shows for policymakers, civil society organizations, municipalities, and centers affiliated with the Ministry of Culture.
This initiative is part of a national vision to change the stereotype surrounding vocational education and training, raise awareness of its economic and social benefits, and reduce the cultural barriers that limit youth involvement.
Because change starts with an idea... and “Out of the Box” is the idea that leads to the future.
